The Expert Parent Program

Many parents are told professionals in education and social care they need to go on a parenting course to consider stricter boundaries. These parents often complain that the advisories within the program do not reflect their child with SEN needs, and are then left feeling more isolated, embarrassed, and feeling a failure. Parents who have children with SEN needs and a demand avoidance profile are being set up to fail on these courses, and negatively impacting the family when stricter boundaries are attempted to be put in place. Lavinia is a Mental Health and Autism nurse specialist who has trained in parenting courses such as Triple P from Australia, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and others and found that there is no bespoke training manual to support a young person who is neurodiverse and struggling with poor mental health. She has designed The Expert Parent Program which is bespoke to support your child's neurodiverse needs alongside their anxiety profile and helps tweaks your parenting skills. Parents have relayed that the course is not only unique, but also appropriate to their specific needs and challenges. It is designed to bring knowledge, humour, and rebuild confidence in tweaking parenting skills to better support their child by working in partnership with parents. Parents are often very surprised at the speed of building their knowledge set and seeing an immediate improvement following working with Lavinia. It only reiterates Lavinia's beliefs that parents with children with SEN needs already are capable parents, but might need to tweak their parenting skills to be in a stronger and more capable position to support and advocate for their child.
